Join the LAMP Study at CliniKids to support your child – and other autistic children – to develop their communication skills.
The aim of this study is to better support nonverbal or minimally verbal autistic children to communicate.
CliniKids researchers are conducting a study investigating LAMP therapy, which helps children communicate using an AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) device.
CliniKids researchers want to explore how effective LAMP therapy is for autistic children and their families.

FAQs
What is LAMP therapy?
Language Acquisition through Motor Planning (LAMPTM) therapy is a picture-based communication software on a tablet (AAC device). It supports autistic individuals to develop independent and spontaneous communication. It focuses on the child’s engagement and interest and uses consistent sequences for selecting words.
What is an AAC device?
Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems are non-verbal forms of communication such as using pictures, gestures, signing, as well as tablet devices with dedicated software to allow an individual to express themselves. LAMP uses a dedicated tablet with voice output to support independent communication.
Do we need to have an AAC device to participate?
You don’t need to own a device - participants will be provided with a dedicated AAC device for the study and be supported to apply for their own funding for a device after the study.
When will participation in the study begin?
This study is ongoing during 2026, and we are currently accepting participants.
