CliniKids held its inaugural Frangipani Family Day recently – an event organised to honour the wonderful contribution of its much loved and dearly missed colleague, the late Kate Sorensen.
Frangipanis were Kate’s favourite flower and her love of these as well as her passion for the families at CliniKids were the inspiration for the event, which included sensory-friendly activities and a sausage sizzle supplied and run by CliniKids supporter, the Rotary Club of Scarborough.
Activities included Lego, face-painting, craft (pin wheels, pom-pom making, chatterboxes, colouring), hair braiding, corn hole throws, backyard cricket and exercise and chill-out zones.
But by far the biggest hits with all the kids were the giant bubbles and the water pipette science experiment.
Kate’s family were special guests at the event. Daughter Abbey said: “It means so much to us all and it was really nice to meet all the families that mum had such an impact on.”
CliniKids General Manager Gemma Upson said the Frangipani Family Day was also an opportunity for CliniKids to celebrate the families it engaged with through its clinical services and research.
“Frangipani Family Day is a reflection of who Kate was and what was important to her – we miss her every day and so do our CliniKids families,” she said.
We look forward to seeing you all at next year’s event!
